New Vermeer TM1400 Cuts Wider; Reduces Time and Costs

PELLA, Iowa—A wide-swath, center-pivot trailed mower that's easy-to-operate and designed to cut the time, labor and costs of high production haying is now available from Vermeer Corporation.

The new heavy-built TM1400 Trailed Mower cuts an 18' wide (5.49 m) path, considerably wider than any other trailed mower in the field. This allows owners to eliminate the need to operate multiple three-point-mounted mowing units, which tie up extra tractors and operators.

The TM1400 is extremely versatile and can operate with lower-horsepower tractors. Center-pivot allows it to maneuver around objects and make 180° turns on headlands for fast cutting. Two independent, staggered (and overlapping) cutterbars ensure accurate and thorough cutting action in the center of the swath. Maximum swath width is 87% of cutting width for quick, uniform drydown. (Swath width percentage depends on type and condition of crop being cut.)

Setup and transport is also simple. Swivel gearbox design accommodates both Cat 2 and 3N hitches. (In addition, the TM1400 is three-point quick-hitch adaptable.) When going from field to transport, the unit folds down to 8'6" wide (2.57 m) quickly and easily to maneuver through gates and travel from field to field.

A unique, patent-pending flotation/hydraulic design reduces cutterbar weight on the ground, allowing it to more easily follow contour. Large 31 x 13.5 -15 tires ensure excellent flotation and stability.

Cutting height is adjustable from 1.25" to 3" (3.2 cm to 7.6 cm). Hydraulic cutterbar pitch control (from 0 to 6°) sets cutting height and allows the operator to adjust for different crops and conditions without the use of tools.

The TM1400 features segmented hex-shaped driveshafts and comes equipped with 14 self-contained cutting units mounted on the independent cutterbars. Each cutting unit is sealed with its own set of gears, bearings and lubricant to reduce service time, repairs and cost. Low-profile cutting discs with wide skid shoes provide smooth, clean-cutting action with maximum protection. Each disk contains a set of extra-thick (5mm) dual edge, reversible blades for longer life. An exclusive Quick-Clip Blade Retention system allows operators to replace or reverse the blades in seconds using just the Quick-Clips and a special changing tool that comes with the mower. Flip-up cover design provides excellent access for routine service and maintenance.

The 6,300-lb. unit (2,858 kg) requires a 1,000 rpm drive system with minimum drawbar horsepower of 95 hp (70.1 kW). Hydraulic requirements include two pairs of auxiliary remote outlets (1850 psi, 6 gpm flow minimum / 120 BAR, 27L/min).
