Since the election, the U.S. Department of Agriculture hasn’t had a full staff. Outgoing Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey has been nominated to fill one of those positions.
President Donald Trump nominated Northey to fill a newly-created position at USDA, the Undersecretary for Farm Production and Conservation. Once confirmed by Congress, Northey would be working with the Farm Service Agency (FSA), crop insurance and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
Northey said he’s “honored” to get the nomination.
Hear what experience he will bring to the national post and his thoughts on the job U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue is doing on AgriTalk above.
