NWS Issues Freeze/Frost Advisory for Northern Iowa

September 13, 2011 09:13 AM

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze and frost advisory for much of North Dakota, Minnesota, northeast and eastern South Dakota and northern Iowa for Thursday morning. Freezing temps are also possible tonight in North Dakota.

The NWS in Des Moines, Iowa, says, "A cold front is forecast to push across the state Wednesday and will provide a slight chance of showers to the southern Iowa Wednesday morning. Unseasonably cold temperatures are expected to filter into the state by Wednesday night and may lead to an extended period of below freezing temperatures across northern Iowa through Thursday morning. Patchy frost is possible over central and southern portions of Iowa."

Juli says: The market was focused on profit-taking today, taking little heed to the frost and freezing temp warning for the Upper Midwest. Soybeans are more vulnerable to an early frost, but some corn will also be impacted, especially impacting crop quality (ability to dry down).
