One-of-a-Kind Welding Trip

March 26, 2010 07:02 AM
The exclusive chance to receive hands-on welding instruction could be a dream trip for farmers who enjoy tinkering in the shop and fixing equipment. The Miller Welding University, hosted by Farm Journal and Miller Electric Mfg. Co., makes the trip possible. Grand-prize winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Miller headquarters in Appleton, Wis., for welding training from Miller experts.
The winners of the 2011 Welding University will be chosen from three pools of entrants. One will be selected from $100 Ideas winners, one from "I Built the Best” winners and one from those who fill out our survey on
In addition to the trip and welding training, the grand-prize winners will choose from two prize packages: a Miller Bobcat 250 EFI welder/generator or a package that includes a Millermatic 212 Auto-Set MIG welder, a Spectrum 625 X-Treme plasma cutter and a Spoolmate 200 spool gun.
The Bobcat 250 EFI has been redesigned with electronic fuel injection to improve fuel economy up to 27% and reduce harmful emissions up to 33%. The weld output and generator power have been increased to 12,000 peak and 10,500 continuous watts.
The Millermatic 212 MIG welder automatically sets the optimal parameters based on metal thickness and wire diameter. The Spectrum 625 features automatic control of the pilot arc, automatic consumable detection to adjust gas pressure and automatic air regulation. The Spoolmate 200 has a 20' power cable and a handle-based wire feed speed adjustment.
Secondary prizes will also be awarded. Ten entrants will receive a pair of Miller welding gloves, and three entrants will receive Miller welding helmets.
Welding University contest rules: Grand-prize winners much be U.S. farmers (within the continental U.S.) who are more than 18 years old and are able to participate in the training to receive the welding products. Previous grand-prize winners are not eligible. One entry per household.
