Use these web resources to develop your 2012 plans

As the days grow shorter and you start spending more time indoors, cozy up to the computer and start making plans for 2012. is your go-to resource for tools, expert advice and news. Here are several tools you don’t want to miss.

Markets Center

Commodity market information is just a click away in AgWeb’s Markets Center. This suite of market data provides a view of what the markets are doing and tracks the activity of individual contracts. The main page includes all of the key commodities in the agricultural, energy and financial market segments. From there, you can find a full list of contracts for each commodity.

One of the unique benefits of the Markets Center is the "spread matrix" format, which allows you to track spreads between two contracts and compare those spreads to other contracts.

Crop Comments and Harvest Maps

Harvest season is winding down. How did yields really shake out this year? What do farmers plan to plant next year? You can find the answers to these questions and more with AgWeb’s Crop Comments and U.S. Corn and Soybean Harvest maps.

The interactive Crop Comments map provides an overview of the latest crop reports from across the country, as well as a comprehensive log of readers’ reports.

The Harvest Maps let you take a virtual look across the country for an overview of corn and soybean yields. Simply input your ZIP code, number of acres harvested and average bushels per acre for your crop. Your data, along with information from other farmers, is then displayed on an interactive map. The different colors quickly tell you where yields are poor, good and excellent, on both state and county levels.

Pinpoint Weather and Radar

View weather conditions down to the field level with AgWeb’s Pinpoint Weather forecast. You can track storm movement with interactive maps, view rainfall amounts for the past 72 hours, see 48-hour forecasts and plan field work with extended seven-day forecasts. To receive live weather data, all you have to do is enter the ZIP code for the desired area. A tutorial can help you get started.

Corn and Soybean Margins Calculators

Our Margin Calculators help you understand corn and soybean production costs by figuring costs for inputs such as seed, fertilizers, chemicals and fuel. Enter your farm’s data and a built-in improvement calculator shows how watching costs a little more closely, boosts in yield or changes in selling price can impact your bottom line.
