Palmer Drought Index Reflects Worsening Drought Conditions

Following is the latest Palmer Drought Index:

Juli says: The precip-needed map paints a discouraging picture for developing corn and soybeans -- especially given that moisture needs are climbing as the crop is maturing ahead of schedule. Much of the Corn Belt needs up to 9 inches of rain to alleviate the drought, while areas of the southern Belt need up to 15 inches -- and there's little meaningful precip in the forecast.
