Pete's Pick of the Week: When to Have Your Auction?

 If farming is a seasonal business, is there a best time of year to host your farm auction? Machinery Pete recently answered this question:

The past five years our data has shown that November to early March is best time of year to have an auction.

The IRS Sec. 179 tax write-off for equipment purchases has been a big factor. For 2014, we'll have to see as the write-off dollar limit currently dropped down to hardly anything.

A general rule is that that good condition used farm equipment with some age on it has continued to sell well on farm auctions no matter when it sells throughout the year, or where the auction is.
