Phipps: Trade Agreement Lifetimes

Last week, the Trump administration took a tougher stance on tariffs by hitting China with tariffs up to $50 billion on imports. China is retaliating by putting tariffs worth $3 billion on U.S. goods.

Last week, U.S. Farm Report commentator John Phipps had a breakdown of
how tariffs will impact the steel industry. This week, he answers a question from a viewer comparing NAFTA to rent agreements.

  Dear Sir, I could NOT disagree more with your stance on trade. President Trump is correct in his approach and I respectfully submit, that your thought process is why we must either cancel or rewrite these agreements. Consider the traffis our nation faces trying to sell in other countries.... why don't you and othesr ever talk about that? We need to Make America Great Again and sadly, farmers like you will never see that. Talk to the corn grower in Western NY that has an ethanol plant by his house but sees all trucks with Ontario plates bringing corn there, or the vegtable grower that looses out to Mexican produce, or the Nj tomato farmer that can't sell his product since he competes with Canadian subsidised hot house produce. Or the guy in the Ford plant that lost his job because farmers buy Toyotas. Mr. Trump is president over the entire nation not just NCGA members.
