How Are Markets Handling Lack of USDA Data?

October 8, 2013 09:30 AM

Each day, we see more areas that this government shutdown affects. Pro Farmer Editor Chip Flory discusses the impacts the government shutdown and the lack of information for the markets with Mike Adams on AgriTalk Radio.

"I think we are starting to see the market impact as we go," Flory says. "We didn't get the Crop Progress reports yesterday."

But, he says a lot of private groups report similar data. "I think as we go on through this week guys will start to miss these USDA reports a little more."

Listen to Flory and Adams:

"At this point we haven't see much of an impact on the grain trade," Flory says. "As we start to miss more and more USDA reports, there will be more a risk-averse attitude."

USDA announced yesterday that it is postponing its World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, which was scheduled for release on Friday, Oct. 11.
