Preliminary All-Milk Price for May at $24.70

The United States Department of Agriculture reported this afternoon that the preliminary all-milk price for May was $24.70. That’s down 60¢/cwt from April but a full $5 higher than a year ago.

California’s preliminary all-milk price for May was $22.30. Wisconsin came in at $25.60 and Florida, with its high Class I fluid milk utilization, was at $29.20.

Feed prices have mitigated somewhat. The May national corn price was reported at $4.71/bu. Soybeans were still at $14.50/bu, down just 40¢/bu from a year ago. Alfalfa hay was $224/ton, very close to year-ago prices. California alfalfa prices for May were $260/ton, reports USDA.
