Top Producer Seminar Highlights

More than 660 of the nation's most ambitious farmers convened in Chicago, Ill., Jan. 27 to 29 for the 14th annual Top Producer Seminar, titled "Win in the New Economy.” This year marked the fourth straight year of record attendance.

The program featured macro-level topics mixed with realistic ideas.

Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank Vice President Jason Henderson kicked off the event, speaking on the credit conditions in agriculture.

Several panel discussions were crowd favorites. They focused on topics such as the role of megafarms, banking advice and practices of Top Producer of the Year finalists.

Donny DeLine, a farmer from Charleston, Mo., was named the 2010 Top Producer of the Year, an award program that began in 2000. The finalists included Schmidt Farms, Sudlersville, Md., and Hudye Farms U.S. Inc., Burlington, Colo.

In addition to the Top Producer Seminar, the second annual Young Farmer Program was held Jan. 26. During the event, young and beginning farmers had the opportunity to learn how to improve their farm business management practices, handle family feuds, cultivate life outside of work and network with other farmers.
