February 5, 2018 02:36 PM

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), released its Cattle Inventory report January 31. According to the report, all cattle and calves in the U.S. totals 94.4 million head, 1 percent above the 93.7 million head a year ago.

The beef replacement heifers number comes in at 6.13 million head, down 4 percent from a year ago, which could signal a slow-down in growth.

AgDay national reporter Betsy Jibben digests the numbers with Don Close, vice president of food and agribusiness research and animal protein at Rabo AgriFinance.
