Roger Bernard, Policy and Washington Editor

August 25, 2008 05:18 AM
Roger Bernard became the Policy and Washington Editor for Farm Journal in 2007. He has been with Pro Farmer, a branch of Farm Journal Media, since November 1986, including 11 years in Washington, D.C. For Pro Farmer, he serves as the News Editor, helping direct the news contained in various Pro Farmer products -- from daily electronic services, to the Internet and the weekly Pro Farmer Newsletters.
Roger is one of the "first lines of defense" for FJM, rising at 4 a.m. to scan the world for news and events that can affect markets and the business of agriculture. Fortunately, he can accomplish this from his own home and then heads into the Cedar Falls, Iowa, offices of Pro Farmer.
While on-the-job training in farm and trade policy has been key to Roger's role at Farm Journal Media, his formal training in radio and TV broadcasting has helped him provide additional depth to the multi-media efforts. He is a regular contributor to AgDay Television and U.S. Farm Report.
Away from work, Roger and his wife Linette reside in rural Grundy County, Iowa, and enjoy their dogs, horses and various fowl! He is also a musician, playing guitar and writing his own songs. Plus, he takes part in what are known as Rendezvous -- where he and others try to recreate what it was like to be a "mountain man" in the 1840s and before.
