U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling on the Food and Drug Administration to implement an emergency rule to lower U.S. somatic cell count limits to 400,000 cells/ml, reports the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.

The emergency action is required to allow the U.S. to continue to export dairy ingredients and products into the European Union.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: Would you rather we use a lot of antibotics to lower our somatic cell counts or have a little higher somatic cell counts? Myself, I prefer a little higher somatic cell count and no antibotics.
