Signs and Symbols at World War II Memorial

December 7, 2016 12:28 PM

The World War II Memorial on the National Mall honors the service of 16 million members of the armed forces, the support of millions on the home front, and the ultimate sacrifice of more than 400,000 Americans.

In May 2004, the memorial was dedicated as a legacy to the Greatest Generation. At the entrance, 24 bronze panels tell a different story of America’s experience in the war, honoring the entire country.
