Soybean Planting Now Behind Average

On May 24, USDA reported corn progress is still ahead of average, with 93% planted and 71% emerged versus 89% and 62% respectively. USDA reports the crop 11% excellent, 60% good and 24% fair; only 5% is poor or very poor.
 
Soybean plantings slipped behind average, at 53% versus 57%. This is still well ahead of last year's 44% however. Emerged came in at 24% versus 23% average.
 
Cotton planting also is trailing the 63% average, at only 60%, but that is ahead of last year's 58%.
