Spaghetti Meat Sauce

1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ c. salad oil
1 lb. ground beef
2 ½ c. tomatoes or 1 (1-lb.) can I used a 28-ounce can or organic tomatoes
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 c. water
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf

Sauté onion and garlic in hot oil. Add meat and cook until browned. Add remaining ingredients; simmer slowly about 1 hour.

Makes 6 servings
