Stats Canada Wheat Crop Peg Below Expectations

October 4, 2012 02:54 AM

Statistics Canada pegs its total wheat crop at 26.733 million metric tons (MMT), which came in below traders' expectations. A much-lower-than-expected canola crop at 13.359 MMT surprised many.

Stats Canada says, "With the harvest well underway, weather conditions in the last few weeks may have had an impact on yields for certain crops. For example, disease may have contributed to lower canola yields in parts of the Prairies, and drought may have affected corn for grain yields in Eastern Ontario."
