The following is a vote summary in which the Senate today voted 50 to 46 to table (kill) an amendment that would have ended the US sugar program. The vote tally was closer than expected. The vote shows declining support for the current US sugar program, which supporters dub the "no net cost program" but which opponents say costs consumers with higher-priced US sugar relative to lower world prices.
