Take a Multi-Prong Attack on Weeds

Use a variety of herbicide tools this spring for maximum weed control.

Roughly a decade has passed since the first alarm was sounded to alert farmers to the development of resistant weeds. Today the problem persists, but farmers can turn the tide against weeds by using a variety of management practices and herbicide tools, says David Hollinrake, vice president of marketing for Bayer CropScience.

Farmers, who use an integrated weed management system, including the rotation of traits, find that good control is easier to achieve and more comprehensive in the process, he says. In addition, that strategy helps protect existing chemistry so it continues to be effective.

"There is no silver bullet on the horizon for weed control, so we need to protect all the products currently available," Hollinrake says.

Hollinrake spoke on the subject of weed control with Farm Journal during the Ag Issues Forum, which Bayer CropScience sponsors during the annual Commodity Classic.
