The Challenges of Late Planting Continue

Five farmers give us the scoop on crop conditions in their home areas.

Over and over this year, the story has been that it's been a challenging growing season. Between cool temperatures and plenty of rain, just getting the crops in the ground was a struggle. But as farmers at the 2013 Corn College in Heyworth, Ill., explained, not all fields are created equal.

Some growers are optimistic and others are just hoping the weather holds. Listen in on crop updates from farmers across the Midwest.


An Indiana farmer confirms that crops in his area are looking good.


Tennessee is struggling with late-planted crops, just like a lot of farmers this season.


Have you ever scouted a planted field with a snowmobile? Some Iowa farmers have.


Even with late planting and spotty rains, this Ilinois farmer is optimistic about his corn crop.


Late planting is certainly causing concerns in Michigan on whether crops will mature before frost arrives this fall.
