Tractor Tales: 1911 Waterloo Boy

October 16, 2017 12:21 PM

During the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Ill. this year, Machinery Pete had the chance to see a legend of a tractor.

2018 will mark 100 years of the John Deere tractor, but the Waterloo Boy was released in 1911.

In 1915, John Deere president William Butterworth, son-in-law of Charles Deere, said the company wasn’t going into the tractor business. Many closed-door meetings later, John Deere purchased the Waterloo Gasoline Company in 1918.
