Twitter Poll: Corn Belt Heat Not Enough to Stop Harvest Delays

September 26, 2017 11:48 AM

Throughout much of last week and into this week, scorching heat across the Corn Belt has farmers wondering if that’s enough to dry and mature the crops.

“The 80s we’re getting is very welcome,” said Jim Smith, a farmer in Grabill, Ind. “If we could have two more weeks of this and frost in November, we’d be ecstatic.”

According to a Twitter poll conducted Monday, 84 percent of the responding 324 farmers said 0 to 25 percent of their crop is harvested.
