Two Tales of Corn Pollination

July 10, 2012 12:32 AM

See two examples of how this year’s corn crop is progressing.

Farm broadcaster Todd Gleason checked the status of corn pollination in two Illinois locations recently. He found both ends of the spectrum.

This video was taken just north of Decatur, Ill. Note that while pollination has not been completed, the nick is not good.

On his father’s farm, in Logan County, Ill., Gleason shares a more encouraging report. This field was planted March 28. It was frosted twice in early April, and the area has been one of the driest in the state. The nick however was surprisingly good.
