U of Minnesota Extension Free Workshop -- Cover Crops 101

January 30, 2013 08:05 AM

The University of Minnesota Extension announces a free cover crop workshop in conjunction with the Cannon River Watershed Partnership. The free event will be held Thursday, February 7 from 4 to 7pm at the 4-H Building of the Rice County Fairgrounds. Certified crop advisors will be eligible to receive one continuing education credit for attendance.

Cover cropping has been mentioned a lot lately in response to regionwide EPA requirements to draft nutrient reduction strategies in an effort to reduce fertilizer runoff into the Gulf of Mexico.

The program will include the U of Minnesota Extension's Jill Sackett and Tom Coffman from the Natural Resource Conservation Service as well as a panel of local growers. Take this opportunity to bone up on cover cropping. Pre-registration is requested but walk-ins are welcome -- supper provided.
