Policy issues will be front and center at the World Meat Congress.

The 2018 World Meat Congress is coming to Dallas, Texas, May 31-June 1. This event, which is the premier gathering of red meat industry leaders from across the globe, is hosted by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) and the International Meat Secretariat.

Trade policy issues will be front-and-center at the World Meat Congress as a distinguished panel of experts exchange views on the likely future direction of the global trading system. The panel will be moderated by Ambassador Darci Vetter, former chief agricultural negotiator for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and now Edelman's general manager of public affairs and vice chair for agriculture, food and trade.

Panelists are:

  • Ted McKinney, USDA under secretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs
  • Kenneth Smith Ramos, chief NAFTA negotiator for the Mexican Ministry of the Economy
  • Jean-Marc Trarieux, who manages trade issues with North and South America for the European Commission’s Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development

Listen to Vetter's comments about the trade panel.

This is just one of many informative sessions planned for the World Meat Congress, where featured speakers will also include U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, Argentine Agriculture Minister Luis Miguel Etchevehere and Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay.
