Vilsack Vacates Office Early, Vacations to Save Taxpayers Money

January 20, 2017 10:02 AM

As former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue gets ready to move into the USDA, he won’t brush past former Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.

Vilsack left his post a week ago.

He told Reuters the reason he stepped down a week early was to save the taxpayers a few bucks, because he planned to take his family to Mexico and didn’t want the government to have to pay for a security detail during his travel.

Vilsack said he left extensive briefing books and electronic information about the agency for Perdue.
