WDE Welcomes New 6,900-Pound Resident

October 5, 2016 01:54 PM

The World Dairy Expo opened Tuesday in Madison, Wisc., celebrating the 50th anniversary of the show with a new statue.

Dignitaries unveiled the 6900 lb. carved  Dakota Mahogany stone of Miss Madison.

Miss Madison encapsulates all seven breeds of dairy exhibited at the show: Holstein, Guernsey, Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, and Red and White.

In a release, WDE said a Madison business, the Quarry Stone Company, was commissioned to build the statue with robotic cutting machines. Artists from Germany and Italy supervised the project, carved from a 47,000-pound block of stone.

Miss Madison can be found at her permanent home outside the northeast corner of New Holland Pavilion 1.
