What the Reorganization at the USDA Means

Sonny Perdue

On Thursday, secretary of agriculture Sonny Perdue made the announcement that the rural development division will lose their undersecretary and gain a secretary for trade and foreign affairs.

To Jim Weisemeyer, senior vice president of Informa Economics, the announcement of the reorganization of the USDA should have been made “years ago.”

He believes there will be positive changes because another person will be at the table when it comes to “important trade agreement deliberations.”

There will be no reduction in staff with this reorganization.

Hear why it’s taken so long for Sec. Perdue to announce other undersecretary positions on AgriTalk above.
