White Genes for Angus Beef

White Genes for Angus Beef

Black may be the most popular color of cattle on the American prairie at the moment, but Vanderbilt professor James West, chief science officer for Climate Adaptive Genetics, says he has developed a method for producing white Angus cattle.

He believes the new hybrid could meet the rising demand for beef production.

Plugging in genes from Silver Galloway and Senepol cattle into Angus semen, West will create the first-ever white Angus, a breed he says will be heat tolerant and allow ranchers to double their current production of beef.
