AgWebFootball 410October 30, 2010, we will begin a pilot project designed to showcase the top agricultural colleges in the country, and their football programs. And you get to tell us where we visit.

The first campus visit will serve as a one-time pilot project this year. We plan to run a full-scale program through the 2011 football season.

The rules are simple:

  • We will visit schools in the Football Bowl System division that also have an agricultural college.
  • We will consider four schools each week.
  • The AgWeb audience will vote to help us select which of the four campuses to visit.
  • We recognize the value of true passion and persuasion, so your comments will also be considered when we make our selection. Comment when you vote so everyone can see your reasoning, or send us an e-mail and we’ll post your comments for you.
  • Based on the poll results and comments from the fans, students and alumni of each school, we will choose which campus to visit.
  • The first school of choice will be announced on AgWeb on Oct. 14, 2010.

Here’ what to expect from AgWeb when we visit the campus:

  • We will spend Thursday afternoon and all day Friday on campus to give AgWeb readers a taste of the college life that will include:
    • A photo tour of the campus
    • Video interviews with the Dean of Agriculture, professors from the college, student interviews and an interview with a football player who is an ag student or another student athlete from the college of agriculture
    • Highlights of the key on-campus agricultural research
  • On Game Day:
    • Tours of the tailgating area to see the game day tradition
    • Reporting from the game via AgWeb, Facebook and Twitter.

The schools and games considered for this first program are (home team in bold):
University of Illinois Fighting Illini hosting the Purdue Boilermakers

Only in Illinois do you have to build the library underground so you don't "throw shade on the plot". The Morrow Plots are the longest continous running test plots in the US.

Why not head out west. Fresno State is in the heart of the most productive and diverse AG region in the country, we have a legendary football program, the quarter back Ryan Colburn is a Plant Science major and the campus has a huge and diverse farm.
