Win $100,000 for Agricultural Innovation

A $100,000 grand prize will be awarded next year as part of the 2014 Agricultural Innovation Prize. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation and University of Madison-Wisconsin made the announcement this week.

All U.S. undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in the initiative in collaboration with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and USDA. Teams of students will be encouraged to "develop innovative ways and real-world plans to address social and agricultural challenges within food systems to improve the standard of living and quality of life for the world’s population."

More than $200,000 in total cash awards will be offered. Entries are due Feb. 28, 2014.

The release of Buffett’s upcoming book, "40 Chances: Finding Hope in a Hungry World", inspired the prize.
