Today the Farm Journal Foundation announced that the keynote speaker for the 2013 Farm Journal Forum will be Dr. Robert T. Fraley. Dr. Fraley is the executive vice president and chief technology officer at Monsanto Company and a 2013 World Food Prize laureate.
Dr. Fraley’s speech will kick off what will be a full day of engaging and thought-provoking discussion exploring the dynamics of food and agriculture policy. The theme of this year’s forum is "Feeding Agricultural Innovation."
Sometimes referred to as the father of agricultural biotechnology, Dr. Fraley oversees Monsanto’s integrated crop and seed agribusiness technology and research. He has been involved in agricultural biotechnology since the early 1980s and has been with Monsanto for more than 25 years. Prior to his current position, Dr. Fraley held a variety of positions at Monsanto in both the managerial and research sectors and received a Ph.D. in microbiology and biochemistry from the University of Illinois.
The World Food Prize was conceived by Dr. Norman Borlaug to recognize outstanding individuals for their contributions to improving quality, quantity and access to food worldwide. This year’s prize was awarded to recognize Fraley’s contributions to founding, developing and applying modern biotechnology to today’s agricultural landscape.
"We are delighted to have such a distinguished keynote speaker at this year’s forum," said Charlene Finck, president of Farm Journal Foundation. "Dr. Fraley’s expertise and lifelong commitment to science will set an exciting tone for a daylong dialogue about diverse aspects and applications of agricultural innovation."
