TEMPERATURE:

Nationally -- Coldest August since 2004 and 3rd coolest in ten years.

Regionally, cooler than typical in most of eastern 2/3 of U..S,

Top ten coolest since 1961 in some Northeast locations (Boston, Syracuse, Portland, ME, and Baltimore-Washington)
Warm August out West (mostly Rockies).  Las Vegas and Reno warmest in ten years


PRECIPITATION:

Should average near normal nationally.  However, huge regional differences (mainly due to tropical storms Edouard and Fay).

Wet in the south (Jackson, MS and Jacksonville, FL had all-time wettest); top ten wettest in Memphis, Denver, Houston, Shreveport, Little Rock, Birmingham, AL, and Orlando.

Dry further north in the Midwest and northeast (Detroit, Richmond, VA and Baltimore-Washington had their driest August ever); top ten driest in Des Moines, Omaha, Peoria, Nashville, Cincinnati, Cleveland
