Summer of Smoke
Sep 28, 2017
Not since 1991 has the Pacific Northwest seen the levels of Smoke we saw this year. There were many days where even the healthiest people were advised not to go outside.
It’s been such a wild summer, this one. Hurricanes, fires all over the west, more record heat. The news just kept hitting like Ty Cobb hammering another one over the wall.
It’s been a few years since we’ve seen triple digits. It wasn’t pleasant.
But, we survived. Being in the zone of totality on the 21st was an experience I’ll never forget. Friends from SoCal came up for it. The moment of totality – indescribable .
And, there were days like this, from time to time, when the winds would shift back on shore.
And, the last few days of unexpected and much welcome rain have help dampen some of the fires, and scrubbed the skies clean. It also dropped our lows into the low 40's.
There is a nice green haze on the pastures, the calves are just exploding in size, and Roar is happy with standing under the groaning apple and pear trees, awaiting the manna from above falling down for him. If they would fall directly into his open mouth, he’d think life had reached perfection.
I’ll leave you with one of our trademark late summer sunsets, and hope everyone has a great fall!
