Farmers in this area have been challenged this spring to get hay put up between persistent rains. My friend and co-worker Kevin has a small cow-calf herd, and was really frustrated with trying to get the most recent cutting of hay baled in the evenings after work and weekends. One day I noticed he was unusually chipper, and asked if he had finally got this cutting baled and in the shed.
"Naw, I just changed my attitude," he said. "I decided to call it "washed hay" if it gets rained on. After these last two downpours, I'm thinking I can brag that I've got the cleanest hay in the state."
