Self Propelled Balers
Sep 14, 2017
Self propelled balers have been in the news this week.
Vermeer announced they were introducing the world's 1st self propelled round baler, their prototype ZR5. For more info on this, click here: https://www.agweb.com/article/vermeer-unveils-worlds-first-self-propelled-round-baler-naa-margy-eckelkamp/ Here's a pic of the new Vermeer self propelled round baler:
But this new introduction from Vermeer wasn't the only self propelled baler to catch my eye this week. A very unique upcoming auction by my friends at Sullivan Auctioneers (http://www.sullivanauctioneers.com) on September 22, 2017 in Oxford, IA for Bill Stockman...better known as "The Hay Man". On The Hay Man's auction are a pair of vintage New Holland SP166 self propelled square balers. The sale bill info indicates only 200 SP166's were sold new back in the day. Here are a couple of pics of the SP166's on the September 22 sale:
A TON of other cool vintage hay balers and hay equipment on this September 22, 2017 auction for "The Hay Man" in Oxford, IA. Here's a direct link to the sale bill: http://www.sullivanauctioneers.com/auction/no-reserve-heritage-baler-auction/
I have seen a couple rare New Holland self propelled square balers sold at auction here recently. On an April 30, 2016 auction in Ontario, Canada, the SP166 pictured below sold for $6,373 (U.S). The same Ontario auction had another SP166 not quite as nice sell for $4,780 (U.S).
On a November 8, 2016 online auction from south-central Montana, the 1979 New Holland 1425 self propelled square baler pictured below sold for $15,631.
