China Reports FMD, Culls 47 Cattle

China Ministry of Agriculture has reported an outbreak of FMD.

China’s Ministry of Agriculture reported an outbreak on Friday of foot-and-mouth disease in a herd of cattle. According to a Reuters report, the cattle had been transported to the Xinjiang region from Gansu province.

The suspected outbreak was discovered on Sept. 6, and confirmed the diagnosis of the O-type strain of the disease on Sept. 14. The local government in Xinjiang then culled 47 cattle following the outbreak. The outbreak is now under control, the ministry said.

This is the eighth case of the O-type strain found in livestock in China this year. In August, China culled 173 pigs due to FMD.
