Farm Journal Media’s Top Producer events this week attracted over 800 of the nation’s largest producers, representing more than 4 million acres. This number includes 150 young farmers who attended the Tomorrow’s Top Producer program for young farmers.

A bearish sentiment filtered through the crowd this year as speakers and panelists talked about the challenges and transitions ahead with market changes in 2014. Many attendees discussed tough decisions on expansion and land buying plans. Setting and maintaining a strategy is the key take away from this year’s seminar, which led with the theme, "Ahead of the Pack." Producers from 30 states attended over 40 different educational sessions for information to help them make decisions on money, marketing and management in today’s volatile farm economy.
"As the market hits another wake of volatility, producers crave new business skills to manage risk and improve their operations," notes Top Producer Editor Jeanne Bernick. "It takes continual education to stay head of the pack. We worked hard to provide high-level information and take-home value at our annual event."

In addition to Top Producer Seminar, the sixth annual Tomorrow’s Top Producer program was held Tuesday, Jan. 28, and hosted 150 of the nation’s brightest young producers. The program was sponsored by Bayer CropScience; Koch Agronomic Services; CASE IH; Deere & Company and SFP.
It is designed to introduce young and beginning farmers under the age of 35 to the business of farming. This year, Tomorrow’s Top Producer hosted two tours for young farmers to the Chicago Board of Trade. The tours were sponsored by SFP. A reception on Tuesday evening allowed young producers to network with top producers from across the country.
