Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and one of the beautiful things in the tractor restoration world is an original condition machine. While the definition of original condition can be (and is) debated, the broad sense of the term refers to a machine which has not been repainted or restored. This W400 is wearing its field clothes and has been kept in as-found condition. The paint is, to the best of the owner’s knowledge, the original coat from the factory.
The owners are Henry an Marion Van Ruler, and the boys keep most of their machines original. Marion is fond of saying “I haven’t met a tractor I want to paint.” He also said he’s painted only one of the tractor in he and his brother’s very large collection of machines, and swears he’ll never do it again.
