A Peek Under the Hood: What You’ll Learn From #FJFieldDays Equipment Edition

Any other year, you might be finalizing plans to head to Louisville in a couple weeks. While the National Farm Machinery Show has been postponed until 2022, you can still catch up on the latest machinery and industry trends at Farm Journal Field Days on Feb. 9. Go ahead and mark your calendar and sign up at FarmJournalFieldDays.com.

The virtual experience provides front-row access to Machinery Pete – without fighting through a crowd. Company reps will share about high-speed planters, too. You won’t want to miss virtual guides to the highest horsepower tractors and farmers’ favorite toys that are tools.

8 a.m. –

The day kicks off with Tyne Morgan, host of “U.S. Farm Report,” and the man himself, Greg Peterson. At the early riser session, “What Every Farmer Should Know About Today’s Machinery Market,” expect:

  • A look back at 2020 and the trends that will continue this year.
  • Details on the hottest machinery segments.
  • Insights on how COVID has changed dealerships and the machinery market as a whole.

9 a.m. –

Machinery Pete talks more in-depth about “Key Drivers in Used Machinery Prices.” The information will help inform any purchasing and selling decisions in the months to come by exploring:

  • What caused used equipment prices to strengthen before January’s commodity price rally.
  • What you need to know about used equipment availability.
  • We’re seven years ahead of the curve in how farm equipment is bought and sold—what does this mean for you?

10 a.m. –

Check in to hear from Case IH, Horsch, John Deere, Kinze and Precision Planting concerning “The Need for Speed.” The high-speed planter panel, moderated by Clinton Griffiths, “AgDay” host and Farm Journal Editor, will address what you need to know about these planters, such as:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of high-speed planting based on research?
  • What does seed placement look like at higher speeds?
  • What do row cleaners, closing wheels, downforce control and down pressure settings impact the success of high-speed planting?
  • Higher speed means more bounce so how do farmers avoid skips, doubles and conditions that cause late emergence?

11 a.m. –

“Hey Pete, what’s this worth?” is the most common question Machinery Pete receives. During this session, “Machinery Pete Answers Top Farmer Questions,” he’ll tackle some of the most frequent questions he fields. He’ll also give insight into how farmers can maximize the value of their equipment

Noon to 1 p.m.

Here’s your chance to ask Machinery Pete your questions live in the networking lounge. Join him and interact with all attendees at Farm Journal Field Days to:

  • Talk about what you’re seeing across the countryside.
  • Ask your burning questions about machinery.

Farm Journal Field Days will also offer several resources and videos on demand, meaning you can access as your time allows:

  • Farmers’ Favorite Toys that are Tools: Droves, ATVs, Shop Tools, Tech Accessories and More
  • Virtual Guide to the Highest Horsepower Row Crop Tractors
  • Behind the Scenes with Tractor Pullers

Don’t forget to check out Machinery Pete’s “Favorite Tractor Contest!” Within the Farm Journal Field Days platform, you can:

  • Review top entries from the more-than-500 submissions from our audience.
  • View each tractor and read about its history and impact on the family who submitted it.
  • VOTE! Let us know which tractor is your favorite by Feb. 16, 2021 at noon.

The winner and their story will be published in Farm Journal magazine this year.
