Marketing is hard. It’s emotional, complex and can make you second-guess everything you know. The best marketers attempt to be consistently average.
To combat negative market moves and seize opportunities to capture revenue, farmers need to create a marketing plan based on their break-even costs and stay disciplined to execute that plan, says Matt Bennett, a producer from Windsor, Ill., and a grain marketing consultant with Channel Seed.
“You have to be in tune with your expense structure,” Bennett says. “You have to know what it means if we get a 15¢ rally.”
To help you overcome market clutter and get a better grasp on what factors to watch in the coming year, attend the 2017 Tomorrow’s Top Producer conference. The business education and networking event for young farmers, will take place July 20-21 in Nashville.
