Master the Markets at Tomorrow's Top Producer

Marketing is hard. It’s emotional, complex and can make you second-guess everything you know. The best marketers attempt to be consistently average.

To combat negative market moves and seize opportunities to capture revenue, farmers need to create a marketing plan based on their break-even costs and stay disciplined to execute that plan, says Matt Bennett, a producer from Windsor, Ill., and a grain marketing consultant with Channel Seed.

“You have to be in tune with your expense structure,” Bennett says. “You have to know what it means if we get a 15¢ rally.”

To help you overcome market clutter and get a better grasp on what factors to watch in the coming year, attend the 2017 Tomorrow’s Top Producer conference. The business education and networking event for young farmers, will take place July 20-21 in Nashville.

A key feature of the event will be a live taping of U.S. Farm Report. The show, hosted by Tyne Morgan, is the nation’s longest-running, syndicated, agricultural news program, produced by Farm Journal Broadcast. Morgan, along with her panelists will provide insights into futures, market trends and other agricultural issues.

The panelists include:

  • Matt Bennett, Bennett Consulting
  • Naomi Blohm, Stewart-Peterson
  • Jarod Creed, Ag Business Consultant

For a deep dive into marketing and farm finances, sign up for the pre-conference workshop, which will take place on Wednesday, July 19. Through hands-on sessions, attendees will learn about commodity market analysis, the components of a marketing plan and the mechanics of developing a marketing plan for their operation.   The lies that drove down the grain market prices over the past few months and the news saying there was no reason for the grain prices to go higher have now been corrected with the South American harvest and US export. Farmers lost a lot of money selling their crops at the lower prices because of them lies.
