Top Producer Market Adviser Track Records | Top Producer Magazine
The Top Producer Market Adviser Track Records have acted as "truth serum" for advisory services for the past decade. They are based on actual trades placed on the advice of each service, adjusted for basis and storage costs. We report their positions monthly, so you don't have to wait six months or more after the marketing year ends to see how they have done. Top Producer applauds the services confident enough in their performance to be tracked in this way. We hope you will, too.
We occasionally receives calls from farmers who follow one of the market advisers reported on in our Adviser Track Index. They often ask, "Why are the results so different?" One answer lies in our methodology--how we treat basis, storage costs and the like (read about our Methodology to review what we do).
Another answer is that most services have more than one type of advice. Perhaps you are following cash-only advice or are in an "aggressive hedge" program that doesn't exactly track what we do.
Finally, if you are signed up with the advisers via a grain elevator, your contract may specify a certain time period. In most cases, it won't match ours, which allows advisers to start selling a crop as far in advance as they wish and "forces a sale" the final day of the crop marketing year (Aug. 31 the year after harvest).
We hope this explains the seeming mystery. If not, let us know!
