Phipps: Biggest Yield Surprise is Old Seed Technology

A much-needed rain shower on the Phipps Farm in east-central Illinois has delayed harvest for U.S. Farm Report commentator, John Phipps. Like many farmers, he too is experiencing better than expected yields.

He thinks seed companies will start to take credit for these yields, but Phipps remains skeptical. For him, the biggest yield surprise came from a “decades-old, non-GMO hybrid” they grow under contract.
