Ag Barometer Drops Lower For March

A new Purdue University CME Group Ag Barometer shows a bit of a drop.

The March reading is 133.That's down from 136 a month ago. Researchers say increasing concerns about future economic conditions drove the barometer lower.

The Index of Future Expectations declined to 139. It was 145 in February. And even though there was a decline in the Future Expectations Index, it is still 15 points stronger than last year. But 52 percent of those asked said they are less optimistic about their farm's financial future now than a year ago.

Financial stress is also an issue. Survey results from January and this month suggest that up to 7 percent of farms are suffering from some financial stress.
