Major news outlets and newspapers are sensing a “story with legs” regarding the U.S.-Russia connection relative to alleged Russia tampering of the U.S. presidential election, with media competition rising to release new developments in an age of 24/7 outlets.
Monitoring recent media dispatches gives the impression that Trump’s aggressive change is turning into potential chaos should the Watergate-aura atmosphere continue relative to Russia. Internal leaks in the new Trump administration are rampant.
The New York Times first and then CNN reported, “Trump aides were in constant touch with senior Russian officials during campaign.” Phone records and intercepted calls reportedly show members of Trump’s campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.
A Class 5 political hurricane? Chuck Todd of NBC News said on MSNBC: “Welcome to Day 1 of what is arguably the biggest presidential scandal involving a foreign government since Iran-Contra. ... Hunker down, because this is a Class 5 political hurricane that’s hitting Washington.”
One veteran Washington source told us, “How is it that highly classified information is being leaked — very few folks have access to this top-secret information about conversations presidents have with foreign leaders. (Former) National Security adviser Michael Flynn had been highly, highly critical of Russia — he should have stepped down, he misled the vice president, so no choice there. The real issue is: management of the White House... lack of issue development, rollout and communications.”
Comments: The topic MAY have legs but that is not yet confirmed, despite the mad dash by media outlets to score scoops and subscribers in a potentially explosive story line. On the other hand, the drip, drip, drip of news on this topic continues to point toward a disheveled White House. Stay tuned and hopefully reporting on this will be checked out and confirmed before being issued.
Bottom line: If... if GOP congressional leaders were to call for an independent counsel/investigation, then this topic would clearly have legs.
