More than 2.3 billion short tons of domestic and international U.S. commerce moves by water. In an effort to help grow capacity and increase efficiency at coastal seaports, Great Lakes ports and inland river ports, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration is funding 41 projects worth more than $653 million under the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP). The improvement projects, part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, are focused on strengthening supply chain reliability, creating workforce development opportunities, speeding up the movement of goods, and improving the safety, reliability and resilience of ports.
