Why does the maker of popular foods like Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies care about soil health? The company says it’s all about a more sustainable future. Farmers and the Kellogg Company are partnering to ground-truth the benefits of conservation methods, such as cover crops. “We seek to understand what are the areas of opportunity, what are the needs, and they vary,” said Diane Holdorf, Kellogg Company’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “What works on one acre, doesn’t work on another acre, much less state-to-state, crop-to-crop.”

To meet the ballooning demand from China’s newly wealthy middle class for a greater variety of foods such as meat, fruit and vegetables, China needs bigger, more efficient and safer farms. But that poses a huge dilemma for the state: if it allows all these little plots to be consolidated, it could put millions of rural workers out of a job.
Machinery Pete says sales of sprayers continue to impress him, but it’s a similar story with quality machines. “Good used equipment has been in demand since end of 2016, and I’ve been surprised at some of the prices we’ve been seeing on late model large stuff,” said Greg Peterson, Host of Machinery Pete TV. He says one factor becoming an even more important factor to buyers is warranties.
