Are Farmers Optimistic about 2018?

Looking back upon 2017 farmer sentiment turned lower in November, according to the Purdue/CME Ag Barometer Index. At a reading of 128, the measure of producer optimism dropped seven points in November. It was the second weakest period observed during 2017. The index is based on a monthly survey of 400 agricultural producers. While less confident than October, the ag barometer suggests agricultural producers are still more optimistic prior to the fall 2016 election. Jim Mintert, director for Purdue University's Center for Commercial Agriculture reflects on farmer's attitudes in 2017.
