Cotton Planting Remains Ahead of Normal

Cotton planting advanced to 84%, eight points ahead of the five-year average.

Cotton planting advanced to 84%, eight points ahead of the five-year average. Planting in Texas jumped 22 points to 82%, now 13 points ahead of average. Planting in Georgia increased 13 points to 86%, two points ahead of normal.

USDA reported 11% of the crop was squaring, one point ahead of average.

The condition of the cotton crop increased four points to 48% “good” to “excellent.” The portion of crop rated “poor” to “very poor” decreased three points to 15%. The Texas crop is rated only 27% “good” to “excellent” and 22% “poor” to “very poor,” though last week’s rains should help the crop.
